Teapot set with cups and trays

Teapots are wonderful if you like to drink tea in a slower relaxing way.

Handmade forms with earthy clay and color add a different aesthetic

and connection to drinking tea. Teapots take forever to make however,

but I think its worth it!

Palm Boats

Vessel Series

Seek the eternal in the present,
Seek the past and the future,
Link them with the direction of your course,
For you are
You are,
You are the vessel.

Palm Boats

The Palm Boats utilize natural materials, and each one is as unique as nature.
I was inspired to make them after creating an elephant from a palm leaf trunk awhile back. Coco palms are quite benevolent plants. In the past they were used for many things. I noticed the beautiful pods, which produce growing coconuts and thought to create canoes out of them. One thing led to another, so now there are an array of sailing vessels... 'dream vessels' perhaps...

Sails are made with linen flax, bark, cotton and/or indigo dyed handmade paper. Perota wood oiled with linseed create a foundation for most of them. Additional rocks, shells, stems, pods, wooden buttons, seaweed, willow, jute, waxed thread or small driftwood pieces may be used.

Valle de los Cirios

On the Road South - In the Morning Light

Valle de los Cirios

The Valley of the Candles is a Protected Area of Flora and Fauna in the municipality of Ensenada in Baja California, Mexico. This site was declared a protected natural area on 2 June 1980. With its 2,521,776 hectares (9,736.63 sq mi), is the area of Plant Protection and largest of Mexico Fauna, the second protected natural area of Mexico for full extension behind only El Vizcaino, but the largest in land area and one of the largest protected natural areas in the world.
It is characterized by scrub and desert landscapes associated with large nuclei candles. Unlike popular belief, this is not a bleak scenario, but an area with a large conservation and integrity, defined by its high level of endemism, which includes abundant concentrations of cacti, reptiles and large mammals. The Valley of the Cirios is since 2004 in the Tentative List of Mexico, to be named World Heritage Site.

Encaustic Photography and Printmaking

The use of beeswax is an ancient method of sealing in paint pigment to paper, photographs, canvas or board. You can print on a warming tray for creating mono prints or de'colage. One uses layers of forms, shapes, and colours, to marking and build the life of the print.

It felt like reviving an old dream when starting in 'encaustic' painting the last year. One can make a 'small studio' without having to buy an expensive printing press. A happy thought!

I've had a love for the art of printmaking in past years. At the university I stayed many late nights in the art studios, lost in the creation process. After graduation unfortunately, there was little access the well equipped studios while working full time in an architectural office... Careers and children left little time to continue painting for many years.

Now I'm creating a new studio space to bring hand made paper, painting and prints back to life!
It feels good to my hands and heart to free the creative process and work in painting media again.
